In July of 2006, the Praevius Group was born out of the creativity and passions of its early founders. A small group of very successful, combat decorated military Officers created the Praevius Group to continue efforts that they had each started in the military – leading Soldiers; improving the performance of leaders; providing services at the highest level; living out their faith; and conducting research on technology, leadership, and methodologies to support change and development.

These men led Soldiers into war and were awarded some of the nation’s highest honors for actions during combat.  In addition, they spearheaded multi-million dollar programs to support and care for Soldiers.  Combat and the military changed each of them – sometimes with lasting physical marks on the outside and sometimes with indelible marks on the inside.  Of the original founders, all four left the military and transitioned to Corporate America, in effort to serve their families and country in a new way.  Each was looking for a life that would stabilize what had been tumultuous and challenging times for them and their families.  Collectively, they discovered that Corporate America was not the lasting answer for them.  Their stories and experiences from combat haunted and fueled them – and let them know that they were created to do more for the military.  They each yearned to partner with fellow combat veterans and to find ways to continue to serve Soldiers, leaders, units, teams, and corporations.

They chose Praevius as a name for the group, which in Latin means, “to come before or to lead the way.”  This definition and the word, Praevius, resonated with the founders and represented what they stood for in their corporate and military experiences – striving to lead the way for others and help others to do the same.   In late 2006, the team coined the phrase, “Thinking Differently” to describe their approach to solving problems and applied it to their initial mission of impacting leaders through the innovative fusion of leadership and technology.    As part of this initial push, the team had been working for and with organizations such as the Army Research Institute on the Leader Challenge Program and DARPA on the TiGRNET (now known as TIGR) Program.  Of those founders, Scott Todd, Nate Self, and Chris Miller remain steadfast members and remain committed to their charter to offer Soldiers, leaders, organizations and corporations something better - something different.  The company’s story and path is as much about the journey as the accomplishments along the way.
